About the Collection

History and Scope of the Collection

This collection hosts production media from 1970 to the present, representing almost 200 main stage productions and 13,000 items. Materials include photographs, posters, playbills, and news articles; publicly available production videos are hosted on Panopto (link forthcoming). Most items from the collection’s first thirty-five years were digitized from physical materials such as 35mm photo slides and large-format posters. Items from 2005 onward are predominantly born-digital.

Contribute to the Collection

This archive is a work in progress. TDPS is particularly interested in materials that document the process of making theatre: rehearsals, design work, offstage collaboration, and other behind-the-scenes moments. If you have items you would like to contribute, please contact collection manager Kate Baumgartner.

Technical Credits

This digital collection is built with CollectionBuilder, an open source framework for creating digital collection and exhibit websites that is developed by faculty librarians at the University of Idaho Library following the Lib-Static methodology. Using the CollectionBuilder-CSV template and the static website generator Jekyll, this project creates an engaging interface to explore driven by metadata.

The Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies thanks Chloe Kelly '26, who built this archive through a partnership with the Vivero Digital Fellows Program, a training and mentorship program hosted by the Digital Liberal Arts Collective at Grinnell College.
